Resting place nature reserve Groot-Loon

This resting place is located in the nature reserve of Groot-Loon.

Grootloon is a nature reserve with a typical Haspengouw landscape . Right next to the church of Grootloon we find a sloping landscape with standard orchards, hedges, flowery grasslands, springs and pools. Typical species such as the garden dormouse and midwife toad feel at home here.

The midwife toad is a European protected species . There is an important population of this toad in this area, but the population has declined sharply in recent years. In the context of sustainable conservation and further spread of the species, new pools were created, dry stone walls were built as shelters (with multifunctional use as a bench) and the quality of the terrestrial habitat was improved.
