The church of Mourcourt is dedicated to Saint-Pierre.
Pierre (Petrus) Fourier was a spiritual director of Alix Le Clerc from the neighboring town of Hymont. Their collaboration gave rise to the Sister Congregation of the Canonesses of Our Lady , which was officially founded in 1606.
Fled from the king's anti-clerical measures, he died in the town of Gray near Dijon, Burgundy. He is known as a gentle man, a model of forgiveness and charity. He was interred in his parish church at Mattincourt . Many miracles happened on his grave , so that it became a popular place of pilgrimage; he was venerated as 'the' saint of Lorraine. It was Pope Benedict XIII († 1730) who beatified him in 1730; in 1897 he was canonized by Pope Leo XIII († 1903).
