This former Concert Hall is one of the highlights of the development of Place Reine Astrid, formerly Place du Parc.
The square was laid out around 1822 by the Tournai architects A. Decraene, Allard-Pecquereau and especially B. Renard. They gave the square a specific neoclassical character, dominated by the concert hall and surrounded by numerous houses or mansions. After the 1940-45 war, only the concert hall, two hotels and some arcades remained of this complex.
This coated brick building, built by B. Renard from 1822 to 1824, in neoclassical style, was to combine a covered market on the ground floor and a performance hall on the upper floor. The Conservatory of Music of the City of Tournai was founded in 1829.
The monument was restored in 1984 by architect A. Wilbaux and retains its appearance, while the interior was completely redeveloped. It was used by the music conservatory.
