Houses Guillaume Hersecap - Tournai

Architectural ensemble attributed to the architect Guillaume Hersecap, consisting of six houses built in 1683 and restored after 1916, as indicated by the cartouches in the facade of No. 27.

The strict rhythm of this reinforces the homogeneity of the whole, despite the different widths and the adjustments to the sills of the stone frames on the ground floor. Above, the classic bays of the Tournai type are accentuated by a carrying cord. Roofs of tiles or tiles that hang over the wooden consoles with graceful curls that are particularly present.

The 'rue du chateau' used to be called the 'rue Castelaine' because the first castle of Tournai was located nearby on an island in the Scheldt.
