Eglise Saint-Nicolas - Tournai

The construction of the church, initially called Saint-Nicolas du Bruille , took place at the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, probably before 1213, the latest date of the creation of the parish.

The Gothic nave is interesting because of the columns with Tournai capitals , considered the first in the Scheldt Valley.

Of the two initially planned towers, only the southern one was completed . The tower, begun with the choir and continued on the intermediate levels with the nave, was completed after 1367. In the 15th century, the north transept was transformed in 1409 into the Fonts Chapel, the Notre-Dame Chapel or the Desfontaine Chapel , named after its founder. In 1496, the chapel of the Blessed Sacrament, known as “des Anglais”, was built south of the choir by the mason and master builder Jehan Dufour.

The church contains beautiful Louis XIV woodwork and numerous ex-votos.

Currently it is an Orthodox church.
