The Hoyoux is a tributary of the Meuse, which rises in Verlée in the Condroz region, Namur province, at an altitude of 290 meters . From Modave the river flows through a deep valley north towards Huy (French: Huy) where it flows into the Meuse at an altitude of 75 meters and 29 km from its source.
On this stretch it has the fastest flow of all Belgian rivers. The average flow measured in Marchin between 1989 and 2003 is 2.0 m³ per second. At the castle of Modave there is an installation where water is extracted intended for the Brussels agglomeration. Up to 80,000 m³ are extracted per day ( about 1 m³ per second ), which is sufficient to supply approximately 200,000 inhabitants.
The Hoyoux, with the greatest decline in Belgium, is known for its travertines , a rare phenomenon in Europe.
The Hoyoux valley is a very interesting walking and cycling area , partly due to the presence of the Ravel Lign126.
