The Théâtre de Verdure, together with the Stade des Jeux, forms the center of the development of the Citadel, which has been demilitarized since 1891. The monumental play infrastructure was built in 1908.
The open-air theater made of painted concrete in Art Deco style was influenced by the Vienna Secession. It consists of a raised stage, accessed by two flights of stairs, framed by two pairs of columns and decorated with the allegories of Tragedy and Comedy , under a pediment.
The Stade des Jeux is a large stadium dedicated to sporting and recreational events, dominated by a gently curved promenade with geometric Art Deco décor heavily influenced by the Vienna Secession. The Royal Box, with the inscription "Ludus pro Patria" on the pediment, is the center of the composition.
