Claus was devoted to the spacious white-painted country house where he moved in 1886 with his wife Charlotte Dufaux. Located between the highway and the Leie, the former hunting pavilion and the idyllic surroundings were a constant source of inspiration, in all seasons and in all light nuances. Emile Claus is buried in the garden, a statue by George Minne adorns the grave.
