Claus was verknocht aan het ruime blank geschilderde landhuis waar hij in 1886 met zijn vrouw Charlotte Dufaux ging wonen. Gelegen tussen de steenweg en de Leie waren het voormalige jachtpaviljoen en de idyllische omgeving een voortdurende inspiratiebron, in alle seizoenen en in alle lichtnuanceringen. Emile Claus ligt er in de tuin begraven, een beeld van George Minne siert het graf.
