Claus était attaché à la vaste maison de maître peinte en blanc où il s'est installé avec sa femme Charlotte Dufaux en 1886. Situé entre la route et la Leie, l'ancien pavillon de chasse et l'environnement idyllique étaient une source d'inspiration constante, à toutes les saisons et dans toutes les nuances de lumière. Emile Claus y est enterré dans le jardin, une statue de George Minne orne sa tombe.
