Buitenbar de Slagmolen

In November 2020, Tourism Flanders purchased the historic Slagmolen, located between the De Maten nature reserves and the Stiemerbeek valley. Visit Flanders has the ambition to revive the site, together with Natuurpunt! A renovation of the mill so that it can be milled again is currently on the agenda. In this way, this place, which has always been a symbol of uniting people, can once again be a warm welcome for the people of Genk, as a visitor centre for the surrounding valuable nature.

In the meantime, Natuurpunt Genk runs an Outdoor Bar in the garden of the Slagmolen, every Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday between 1 and 5 p.m. (from June to September, the Outdoor Bar is open on Sundays from 12 noon to 6 p.m.).

Unfortunately, the condition of the building itself is not yet sufficient to open the indoor location. But feel free to come and have a coffee, beer or lemonade in our brand new and cosily furnished tent, and soak up the warm atmosphere of yesteryear!

Combine your visit with a beautiful walk through De Maten, stroll over the dunes and enjoy the water, use the boardwalk along the Stiemerbeek valley towards the center of Genk, or come and have a drink as a stopover during a bike ride through the Wijers, land of 1001 ponds.

The volunteers of Natuurpunt Genk are eager to welcome you and it will undoubtedly be fun!
