Buitenbar de Slagmolen

In November 2020, Toerisme Vlaanderen purchased the historic Slagmolen, located between the nature reserves De Maten and the Stiemerbeekvalley. Toerisme Vlaanderen aims to revive the site in collaboration with Natuurpunt! A renovation of the mill to make it operational again is currently on the agenda. This way, this place, which has always symbolized the unification of people, can once again be a warm welcome for the people of Genk, serving as a visitor center for the surrounding valuable nature.

In the meantime, Natuurpunt Genk operates an Outdoor Bar in the garden of the Slagmolen, open every Wednesday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1 PM to 5 PM (from June to September, the Outdoor Bar is open on Sundays from 12 PM to 6 PM).

Unfortunately, the condition of the building itself is not yet sufficient to open the indoor location. But feel free to come and enjoy a coffee, a beer, or lemonade in our brand new and cozy tent, and soak up the warm atmosphere of yesteryear!

Combine your visit with a beautiful walk through De Maten, stroll over the dunes and enjoy the water, use the boardwalk along the Stiemerbeekvalley towards the center of Genk, or stop for a drink during a bike ride through the Wijers, the land of 1001 ponds.

The volunteers of Natuurpunt Genk are eager to welcome you, and it will undoubtedly be a pleasant experience!
