The Fontaine des Princes in Chimay was built in 1852 by Prince Joseph 1st de Riquet, known as the Grand Prince.
It is a neo-Gothic monument with four sides and three levels with an allegorical statue representing the city of Chimay.
On each side of the monument is a statue of a member of the princely family. Opposite the town hall is Philippe d'Alsace de Henin-Lietard , who received all the major orders, including the Order of Malta, the Golden Fleece, Saint Louis and the Belgian Lion. He was also a lieutenant of the wolf pack of the French royal family.
François-Joseph de Riquet, Count of Caraman and 16th Prince of Chimay, stands opposite the triumphal gate.
Looking north is Pierre-Paul de Riquet , seigneur de Bon-Repos and 14th Prince of Chimay, creator of the Canal du Midi or Canal de Languedoc.
Madame Tallien , or Notre-Dame de Thermidor, turns her back on François-Joseph de Riquet, whom she married in 1805, and is known for her many love affairs, including one with Napoleon Bonaparte. She is also known in Chimay for the construction of the small theater that houses the Fine Arts, Music and Theater departments.
