The town hall was built in 1724 in the classical Montois style , as the date on the facade indicates.
In the 19th century, important work was carried out on the side facade, which was treated in the same spirit, and on the mansard roof with the curled dormers. On the square side, the two-storey building has a limestone facade with refrets, structured in three bays by imposing pilasters with composite capitals.
On the Welzstraat side, the 19th-century facade respects the original style .
The building has similar openings to those above, a prominent central bay highlighted by a monumental doorway under a low arch with a key bearing the coat of arms of the city of Chimay and an imposing French window with an entablature protected by a stone balustrade on the first floor.
Inside, the basement houses former prisons on two levels.
