The current location was originally the site of a Romanesque church, which was destroyed during religious strife in the fourth quarter of the 16th century. It was later restored, but demolished between 1840 and 1844. The current church was consecrated in 1845 .
The church is built in neoclassical style with brick walls and sandstone for the plinth and cornerstones. The building has a square, built-in west tower with coupled round-arched sound holes under a constricted spire.
The church has a 17th century bluestone baptismal font. From the 18th century date some paintings of the Flemish school, the side altars of marbled wood and the pulpit. Two partitions from the 18th century come from the former choir stalls.
The church contains an organ from 1856, possibly by Bernhard Dreymann (Mainz).
