The work was placed in 1988 on the occasion of the 45th anniversary of Chiro Inzet , the local youth movement.
The name "Anzie Seppe" refers to a typical village figure and nickname from Basel, which was popularly used for a mischievous, playful boy — the kind of rascal everyone knew in their youth.
The bronze sculpture of a whistling, marching Chiro boy , lively and full of movement — a sparkling symbol of youth and enthusiasm in the heart of Basel.
The statue is by Frieda Mariën , born in Mechelen on 29 May 1938.
