The mineral water from Chaudfontaine is sourced in the Belgian municipality of Chaudfontaine. The name 'Chaudfontaine' (warm spring) refers to the presence of thermal springs with a temperature of around 37 degrees Celsius.
In 1714, Xhrouet published a work on the mineral waters of Chaudfontaine, Spa, and Aachen, which stimulated scientific interest in the water. As early as 1725, the first spa was built, and a few years later, in 1729, bottled Chaudfontaine water was mentioned for the first time. Bottling received an official structure in 1924, when the Canter family founded the Société Eau Minérale Thermale de Chaudfontaine.
In 1950, S.A. Cristal Chaudfontaine obtained exclusive bottling rights and was renamed S.A. Chaudfontaine-Monopole. Production capacity was further expanded after the acquisition by the Piedbœuf group in 1962. In 1972, glass bottles were replaced by PVC bottles.
In 1988, Piedbœuf merged with Stella Artois, leading to the creation of the Interbrew group. In 1997, Chaudfontaine-Monopole was sold to Abbas Bayat. Ultimately, the brand was acquired by Coca-Cola Belgium in 2003.
The mineral water from Chaudfontaine is known for its exceptional purity. The water travels for more than 60 years through various rock layers at a depth of 1,600 meters, where it is naturally filtered and absorbs minerals such as calcium and magnesium.
