The current appearance was largely formed in the 18th century; the nave was extended in 1872, and the current western tower also dates from 1872 , but a Romanesque church once stood there; archaeological finds confirm traces of its predecessors.
The church combines elements of late Baroque and Classicism , particularly in the interior and furnishings: the main altar with statues of Our Lady of the Assumption, St. John the Evangelist, and St. Peter; medallions of the four Church Fathers. The late Baroque communion rail with ten (or eleven?) carved wood panels and symbolic representations of the Eucharist. The organ originally dates from 1870-1876 (Lovaert) and was later repaired after war damage and expanded in the 1950s. The marble baptismal font (white and black marble) dates from 1783, with a brass cover from 1784.
