The Hop Museum

In the Hop Museum, you will discover how important hops used to be for this region. The permanent hop expo 'Between Hell & Hop' tells the story of hop history, hop cultivation, hop poles, and hop trade. You will learn about the different ways hops were grown, harvested, and dried.

The exhibition was created in collaboration with the Hop Association 't Stakenhuis. That name obviously also refers to hop cultivation.

In the past, hops were traditionally grown on long wooden poles, today this has been replaced by wire constructions. After the harvest, those poles were gathered and set up in a sort of teepee-shaped structure, which is called the stakenhuis. In the spring, they were placed back in the hop field.

The wooden poles eventually largely disappeared from the landscape. The museum preserves the knowledge and objects that remind us of these hop traditions. Through various attributes, a film, images, and hop bells, you are immersed in the world of hops.
