In the 13th century, the Cistercian order established one of the largest abbeys in the Christian world in Villers-la-Ville. In 1789, it was destroyed during the French Revolution, but its ruins still testify to its former power today. Leave its domain and you will be welcomed by a beautiful forest. Like a great church ship, the tall beeches cast a play of light and shadow along the path. The wealth of the forest can be read in the landscape: daffodils or cornflowers are spread out along valleys and ponds. At the edge of the forest, the route takes you to the peaceful and remote villages of La Roche and Tangissart. A steep descent and you end up in a small valley. You follow a stream that the beavers have fearlessly transformed into a small mangrove. Tall trees, meadows, wetlands, and an exceptional heritage as a culmination: the variety of this walk is astonishing.
