Walk of 5 to 10 km in Achouffe - The Valley of the Fairies

Let yourself be enchanted by the village of the gnomes! In Achouffe, located in the Valley of the Fairies, the streams Martin-Moulin and Chevral merge. It is one of the smallest and most charming villages in the area. Close to the bridge at the confluence of the two streams lies the Pisciculture Domaniale, a domain where fish are farmed. Achouffe, a prime tourist village, is particularly known thanks to its brewery. The beer La Chouffe is brewed exclusively with water from the Cedrogne spring, to which it owes its typical taste. The brewery was established in an old farm by two brothers-in-law, one Walloon and the other Flemish. Do you know the legend of the gnomes? These typical little dwarfs from the Ardennes lived in caves (such as the Trou des Nutons on Route de La Roche in Houffalize). They had a tunnel leading to the chapel of Notre-Dame de Fôret, between Taverneux and Sommerain. At night, they repaired the shoes of the residents of Houffalize. That is why Houffalize is also known as the city of gnomes. In 1807, two rebels from the area sought refuge in the cave. They were cobblers. At night, the local population left torn shoes and provisions at the entrance of the cave. The next day, they found them repaired.
