You start this bike ride of about 86 kilometers along the Pagus Flandrensis or Vlaanderengouw, an area around Bruges defined by the Romans, at the Burg in the De Goede Herder district in Torhout. Following the junctions, you ride to the Provincial Domain d’Aertrycke, a beautiful castle park with a pond, meadows, and forests. A castle park naturally comes with a castle. The 19th-century castle d’Aertrycke, with its eclectic neo-gothic style, is a real eye-catcher. A few kilometers from the center of Torhout, you will find Castle Wijnendale, surrounded by the Wijnendale Forest. Unfortunately, you cannot enter the castle, but the 180-hectare forest is partly accessible to visitors. Next, you cycle through Ichtegem to Oudenburg where you can admire the farm of the Saint Peter's Abbey. At the farm, the monks grew vegetables, herbs, and animals, baked bread, and brewed beer. Now you can enjoy the view and have a bite to eat and drink.

In Gistel, you will encounter the Oostmolensite, which houses the cycling museum De Gistelse Flandriens. A fascinating journey awaits you through the cycling achievements of Sylveer Maes (Tour winner in 1936 and 1939) and the ‘Lion of Flanders’ Johan Museeuw. With the German bunker at the IJzer in Middelkerke and the military cemetery of Vladslo, you are once again reminded of Flanders' contribution to World War I.

Before you head back towards Torhout, you will pass the Fransmansmuseum in Koekelare, which pays tribute to the thousands of men and women from Flanders who moved to northern France to work until the 1960s. You can conclude the bike ride with a visit to Castle Ravenhof and the adjacent castle park.
