Rijmenampad

The municipality of Bonheiden, together with Keerbergen, forms the Brabantian Kempen. These are residential centers along the valley of the Dijle, with plenty of forest and greenery. The Bonheiden district of Rijmenam is no exception. It is one of the oldest villages in the region, which is still evident today in the beautiful village center from where this walk begins.
The three-sided village square indicates an ancient Frankish origin. It was laid out just outside the floodplain of the Dijle. This was a strategic choice, as there was a crossing over the Dijle. At the beautiful Sint-Martinus Church, to the left of the tavern 't Bleekhofke, you walk along a narrow church path to the banks of the Dijle.
