The Mispeldonkpad in Bonheiden

The centuries-long interplay between man and nature led to a nature reserve full of variety. On Mispeldonk you will find meadow landscapes, moist deciduous forests, wood edges and on the higher donken and valley edges coniferous forests.
To preserve such a landscape, it must be managed, especially by mowing and grazing. For this, Natuurpunt relies on a herd of Galloway cattle.
This breed from the southwest of Scotland is accustomed to harsh climate conditions. The cattle are self-reliant, gentle and not very picky. This makes them ideal nature managers.
Because the cattle have plenty of space, they can choose their own food. And because one plant is already a bit tastier than the other, some places will be eaten a bit more bare than others. You can start this walk on the Church Square of Bonheiden. There you will also find a spacious parking where you can leave the car for two hours (parking disc). The following buses also call at this starting point: 530-532-533-539-660-681-931.
