The inclined plane of Ronquières or Plan Incliné de Ronquières is a boat lift that connected Brussels with coal mines from Charleroi. This boat lift is nominated among others as a candidate for 'large and useless works', as the new canal cost 77 million euros and opened in 1968, when the Walloon coal mines were systematically closing.
The old canal, La Sennette and the new canal are the main lines in this 25.4 km walk.
