It crosses the Val d'Hérens and the village of Bramois. It originates from the confluence of the Borgne d'Arolla and the Borgne de Ferpècle, at Les Haudères. At the bottom of the valley, it plunges into deep gorges nearly 3 km long, at the foot of which lies the hermitage of Longeborgne, and it flows into the Rhône at an elevation of 493 m.
A portion of the waters is captured for the Grande Dixence facilities, notably at the Ferpècle dam and upstream of the Arolla pumping station. A portion of the waters has been captured at the Luette dam as well as at Sauterot since 1915, producing an annual output of 85 GWh at the Bramois power station.
