Ze doorkruist de vallei van Hérens en het dorp Bramois. Ze ontspringt bij de samenvloeiing van de Borgne d'Arolla en de Borgne de Ferpècle, bij Les Haudères. Aan de onderkant van de vallei stort ze zich in diepe kloven van bijna 3 km lang, waar onderaan het ermitage van Longeborgne zich bevindt en ze in de Rhône uitmondt op een hoogte van 493 m/m.
Een deel van het water wordt afgetapt voor de installaties van de Grande Dixence, met name bij de dam van Ferpècle en bovenstrooms van het pompstation van Arolla. Een deel van het water wordt afgetapt bij de dam van de Luette evenals bij de Sauterot sinds 1915, wat jaarlijks 85 GWh oplevert voor de centrale van Bramois.
