Storms can be quite fierce on and around Lake Lucerne. According to local legend, this is related to the death of Pontius Pilate, who supposedly committed suicide in the lake after climbing the mountain named after him. In the 14th century, a brave priest reportedly sought out this cursed site to perform an exorcism on the suicide lake. But storms still regularly arise on the lake.
