Les tempêtes peuvent être assez violentes sur et autour du lac des Quatre-Cantons. Selon la légende locale, cela est lié à la mort de Ponce Pilate, qui aurait soi-disant mis fin à ses jours dans le lac après avoir gravi la montagne qui porte son nom. Au XIVe siècle, un prêtre courageux aurait cherché cet endroit maudit pour y réaliser un exorcisme sur le lac des suicides. Mais des tempêtes se lèvent encore régulièrement sur le lac.
