In this government building, grain was stored in the 18th century; now it is a cultural center. It was built on large vaulted wine cellars where white wine from Vaud was stored. Currently, there is a restaurant located in these cellars. In the middle of Kornplatz stands proudly the Kindlifresserbrunnen (fountain of the giant), a work of Hans Gieng that has been frightening whole generations of children since 1545. The giant devours a toddler and holds the rest of his meal in his left hand...
