Description by the author

This stage is the least difficult of the Valais Cycling Tour: most of the route is downhill. Starting from Goms, you will discover the unique atmosphere of the Haut Valais villages scattered along the roadside. The route leads to Brig along the young and vibrant Rhone river, born just a few kilometres upstream at the Furka glacier.
This stage from Goms Valley to the town of Brig is certainly worth the trip. You could encounter some emblematic animals of the Valais, like the Valais Blacknosed sheep, or the Valais Blackneck goats. Another highlight: the route passes through the village of Mund, famous for its cultivation of saffron. Finally, the Stockalper Palace in Brig will impress you with its history, architecture, and baroque garden. This gentle stage is full of surprises!
Take the time to stop in Fiesch to take the two gondolas toward Fiescheralp and the Eggishorn (2,934m). Here you will see the mighty Aletsch glacier, the largest glacier in the Alps and a UNESCO World Heritage site.
CFF train to Brig, then MGB (Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn) train or bus to Oberwald.
From Brig, follow route 19 "Furkastrasse" for 40km until Oberwald.
This tour is one stage of the Valais Cycling tour where the finish is not at the same place as the starting point. Therefore, we recommend arriving by public transport. Otherwise there are parkings at the train station in Brig, follow the local park routeing to access them.
We recommend: bike in excellent working order, helmet, gloves and bell, clothing suitable for the weather (always carry a waterproof), food and drink.
Strictly respect the Swiss traffic rules. Please note that you are running the tour at your own risk and all liability is refused. Please be considerate to plants and animals.
