The Schauenburg, also known as Scouwenborg, 1143 Scowenburch, 1184 Schowinburc or 1240 Scoenburc, is the ruin of a high castle in the municipality of Schauenburg in the northern Hessian district of Kassel.
The castle ruin Schauenburg is located in the Habichtswald Nature Park on a basalt cone with an elevation of 499.9 m above sea level, the Schauenburg Castle Mountain, which rises in the Hoofer Pforte as a northern foothill of the Langenberge southwest of an upper section of the Bauna river. It lies between the main town of Schauenburg, Hoof, in the east and the district of Breitenbach in the west. The nearest major city is Kassel, whose city center is about 12 km to the east-northeast.
