The district of Resser Mark in the east of Gelsenkirchen is named after the heath and forest landscape of Resser Mark, which adjoins the old farming communities of Buers to the southeast. It continues to the east with the Hertener Mark. The core of the present district consists of a settlement that was established in the late 1930s in Emscherbruch, east of Erle and south of the village of Resse.
