It was in Mittenwald that the Reichsbank gold of the Nazi's was transferred to Oberst Pfeiffer of the Gebirgsjäger (Edelweiss regiment). The gold was on its way from Berlin to Garmisch-Partenkirchen but the allies were getting too close to Garmisch-Partenkirchen. So they brought it to Mittenwald.
Some soldiers of Pfeiffer hid the gold in the neighbourhood of Mittenwald.
