Marienmünster Abbey is a former Benedictine abbey in Marienmünster, North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Archdiocese of Paderborn.
In 1127, Widekind became Count of Schwalenberg. The following year, he and his wife Lutrud d'Itter, on the advice of his cousin or brother-in-law, the bishop of Paderborn, Bernard of Oesede, made a donation to the Benedictine abbey as a monastery of expiation. They provided land in the immediate vicinity of their ancestral castle, the Oldenburg, built the church and monastery buildings, and provided the monastery with subsistence goods for the monks.
