The Wischhafen Dam near Wischhafen shields the Wischhafener Süderelbe from the Elbe. It is part of the Lower Elbe storm surge protection project; which is a tidal stream from the weir of Geesthacht to its mouth in the North Sea. This project was started after the storm surge of February 1962.
The dam is located 500 m upstream from the jetty of the Glückstadt–Wischhafen ferry jetty.
