The Barmer Bank Association Hinsberg, Fischer & Comp. KGaA, or simply the Barmer Bank Association or Barmer Bankverein, based in Barmen, was founded in 1867 and was one of the largest German regional banks until its merger with Commerzbank AG during the banking crisis in 1932.
The exchange business founded in 1810 by Johann Abraham Kemna is the "first certainly verifiable link in the uninterrupted chain of bank houses, whose last link became the Barmer Bankverein after changing its name four times."
