It all started on a farm near Rorup, which had been bequeathed to the diocese of Münster. In 1856 the Redemptorists settled in it. This first monastery had to close in 1873 as a result of the Kulturkampf. After its end in 1891, German Benedictine nuns of the Blessed Sacrament moved from Oldenzaal in the Netherlands to the monastery. In 1895, the nuns began to bake wafers. From Hamicolt, Vinnenberg Abbey was revived in 1898 and Varensell Abbey was founded in 1902. In Hamicolt, the sisters ran a wafer bakery and a vestment embroidery. On March 1, 2008, the last eight sisters moved to the Catholic retirement home in Rosendahl-Osterwick.
