The Oberstein Castle, colloquially referred to as the "New Castle," is actually a medieval hilltop fortress located above the upper district of Oberstein in Idar-Oberstein in the Birkenfeld district in Hunsrück.
The Oberstein Castle lies to the west of the "Church Rock," a rugged rocky outcrop above a rock church, the famous rock chapel of Idar-Oberstein, above the Nahe Valley next to the ruins of Castle Bosselstein.
