The district court of Lindlar is mentioned for the first time in a document dated 21 April 1477. At that time, the court did not yet have its own seal, so the document was sealed by the bailiff of Steinbach. In addition to the Lindlar District Court, there were also courts in Wipperfürth, Overath and Kürten in the Steinbach district. In 1555, the Lindlar and Overath district courts were united and the seat was moved to Hohkeppel. In the following period, there was now talk of the "Keppel District Court". At this time, there were court courts in Lindlar, Heiligenhoven, Scheel, Steinenbrücke, Steinbach and Georghausen.
