The Dortmund-Deusen sewage treatment plant is the first sewage treatment plant built as part of the Emscher system reconstruction project on the Emscher. The operator is the Emscher Association.
Until 1994, the wastewater from Dortmund's city center and the Nordstadt flowed untreated into the Emscher. At that time, the wastewater from Dortmund's breweries and Hoesch AG was also included. The catchment area of the treatment plant covers 4,620 hectares.
