Bernburg Castle, also known as the Crown of Anhalt, rises as a Renaissance castle on a high sandstone cliff on the eastern bank of the Saale, on the site of a former ford, above the town of Bernburg in Saxony-Anhalt. The castle complex dates back to a medieval hilltop castle. The castle is managed by the Cultural Foundation of Saxony-Anhalt as the owner.
The Bernburg was probably mentioned as early as 29 June 961 as a Saxon round and refuge castle with rampart and moat in a deed of donation by King Otto I as "Brandanburg". A large early medieval castle complex has now been archaeologically proven on the Bernburg Schlossberg.
