The Jerusalem Bridge is one of two bridges that span the Elbe at river kilometre 327.7 in Magdeburg as part of the Nordbrückenzug and cross, among other things, the Bundesstraße 1.
Due to the strong increase in road traffic, the construction of another Elbe bridge for westbound traffic began in 1994 downstream, i.e. north of the old bridge. In contrast to the old bridge, the structure was arranged at an angle to the river axis, but it has the same parameters in terms of clear width and building height. The bridge was opened to traffic on 4 October 1996 as the Jerusalem Bridge with a 6.5 m wide carriageway for two lanes and a 5.0 m wide footpath and cycle path. The 214.3 m long structure consists of approach bridges on both sides with spans of 35.70 m and 47.71 m respectively as well as the river bridge. In contrast to the southern bridge, the structure system does not have a pure arch with massive abutments to absorb the horizontal thrust in the longitudinal direction of the bridge, but is designed as an arch bridge anchored in itself.
