Hetlinger Schanze refers to the Elbe beach at Hetlingen opposite Lühesand, named after the historically significant field fort of the same name. The beach is also home to the tallest overhead power line masts in Europe, known as Elbekreuzung 1 and 2. It is a popular local recreation area and nature reserve. In earlier times, this was the most important crossing of the Elbe on the Oxen Road.
