Description

Because written sources about the construction history of the church are lacking, dendrological research was conducted on the wooden building materials of the church during the last restoration. This has shown that the church tower is the oldest part of St. Castor. It concerns the building element of the Romanesque predecessor church and dates from 1179. Examination of the intact roof structure revealed that the short, three-nave hall church must have been built between 1312 and 1319. A document from 1319 mentions as patron saints the Holy Virgin Mary, Mary Magdalene, and St. Castor. The side aisles have galleries. The late Romanesque tower is part of the church building. Each nave has a 5/8 choir closure. On the south side, there are two porches. The western porch, supported by two slender columns, has a ribbed vault, while the eastern porch has a star vault.
