The Ahse is a 50 km long left-side and southern tributary of the Lippe in North Rhine-Westphalia. It flows in the Soest Börde in the municipalities of Bad Sassendorf, Lippetal, Welver, and the city of Hamm, where it empties into the Lippe.
The name "Ahse," originally transmitted as "Orsna" or "Arsene," is associated with a reconstructed Uraldean word arsa, which means "rear" or "back." Whether this word is directly applied to the river or if it is a metaphorical transfer, such as a hill or elevation, remains unclear.
