The Protestant City Church in Lengerich in the Tecklenburger Land has its present form from the 14th and 15th centuries. The church and congregation belong to the Tecklenburg church district of the Protestant Church of Westphalia.
A first church was presumably built between the 9th and 11th centuries on the Lengerich property of the ladies' monastery in Herford. A second church, of which it is certain that it was already built of stone, was established in the second half of the 12th century. From the second quarter of the 13th century comes a third church on the same site, which is documented for the year 1327 as having housed an altar dedicated to Saint Margaret.
