Spatenbräu is a traditional brewery in Munich that traces its history back to the year 1397. It has been part of the Spaten-Franziskaner-Bräu GmbH since 1922, which has belonged to the Spaten-Löwenbräu group since 1997. Today, the beer brand is part of the Belgian Anheuser-Busch InBev brewing group.
The tax book of the city of Munich first mentions a brewer, Hans Welser, at the property in Neuhausergasse 4 in 1397. In the next 125 years, the ownership of the brewery changed frequently until it was owned by the Starnberger family for exactly one hundred years from 1522. Owned by the eponymous Spatt family from 1622 to 1704, the owner until 1807, the Sießmayr family, no longer changed the name Spaten.
