The Hagenberg is located on the south side of the Teutoburg Forest east of the centre of Bad Iburg and Iburg Castle. The next elevation in the east is the Freeden. The Hagenberg is largely populated. On the eastern slope lies the Old Cemetery of the former village of Iburg. The "Grundschule am Hagenberg" is named after the mountain, which was built as an elementary school in 1959 on the north side of the Hagenberg and was initially run separately as a Catholic and Protestant elementary school. The Ahornweg, an approximately 90-kilometre-long hiking trail in the form of a loop, leads over the Hagenberg, the junction of which is in Bad Iburg.
