The Clemens-August-Gymnasium is the first state gymnasium in the city of Cloppenburg. About 1,370 students attend the school.
The school was built in the neo-classical style and was opened on April 24, 1914, as the "Grand Ducal Oldenburg Realprogymnasium." In the early years starting in 1914, only grades 5 to 10 were taught. From 1920, it was expanded into a regular gymnasium, and in 1923 the first high school diplomas were issued.
